STATURDAY: My Journey with PiYo, T25, 21 Day Fix Containers and Shakeology

I apologize that it has taken me a while to write about my progress.  I have been in the throws of wedding planning - so every free moment that I normally would use towards writing my blog, I devoted towards wedding planning.  Actually, in writing this - I can't believe how quickly time has flown and that my wedding is officially 21 days away.  It feels like I blinked - I thought I had more time!  And note that I totally caved this week and ended up hiring an event planner so that I wasn't so stressed out on the big day.  I really want to make sure that I take in moments throughout the day and just enjoy everything.  Enjoy being with our close friends and family.  Enjoy saying "I do" to my best friend.  That's really the whole point, isn't it?  :)

I have been keeping up with my PiYo and T25 joined schedule.  I love how Beachbody thinks of everything!  :)  I am doing well at exercising 4-6 days per week first thing in the morning.  I have continued to do the program in sequence, even if I miss a day.  I have found over these last few weeks that I have gotten MUCH stronger and the programs get easier.  I notice that in some spots where I would normally drag and not be able to push any harder, I was able to do faster and better this week without stopping.  Those little things are wonderful motivations to keep pushing and move forward.

Annnnddd....

Of course, I also notice the way that my CLOTHES feel.  My pants are getting big around my waist, my shirts are even getting looser - and my ARMS are getting so much more toned.  That was the entire reason why I decided to do the programs together, because it helps in definition!  Getting married on a beach, I want to have nice toned arms!!!  :) In terms of toning the body and getting it long and lean, this is really a great program.  In terms of losing weight, I am losing some, but not much on the scale.  I have lost more inches than I have weight because of the muscle building and toning.  I will totally take that though!  I would rather FEEL and LOOK my best, than rely on a stupid number.  I encourage YOU to do the same when you're working out.  Take those measurements and photos before and at the end.  It is super important and a wonderful way to stay motivated!  :)

My starting Measurements as of January 12th:

Weight:  154.6

Chest:  38 in.
Waist:  33 in.
Hips: 38 in.
R. Thigh: 22 in.
L. Thigh: 22.5 in.
R. Arm: 12 in.
L. Arm: 12.1 in.
____________________________
Total Inches:  177.5 in.

My current measurements as of February 21st:

Weight:  152.1

Chest: 36.25 in.
Waist: 32
Hips: 36.5
R. Thigh: 20.5 in.
L. Thigh: 20.5 in.
R. Arm: 11.2 in.
L. Arm: 11.25 in.
_____________________________
Total inches:  167.95 inches

I have lost a total of 10 inches off of my entire body and I'm down nearly 3 pounds!  I am so thankful for Beachbody and I am so happy with the programs and Shakeology.  Slow and steady wins the race.  Those are 10 inches and 3 pounds that won't easily be added back onto my body again.

I am still doing the 21 Day Fix Meal plan (which the challenge packs are ON SALE this week, if you've been thinking about getting it, get it now while it's on sale - only one more week left!!!!), but I need to do better about my portions and those candies at work.  With some of the stresses with the wedding, I won't lie - I have definitely had my fair share of CHOCOLATE!  haha!  Do I beat myself up about it?  No.  But, I have 21 days till the wedding now, so I need to hold myself accountable and kick-it into high gear.  I can do it - I know I can!  :)

Currently, I am running a 21 Day Nutrition and Fitness Fix group.  It is going so well that I already have one of the participants who has lost 3 pounds already in the first week alone!  That makes me feel so good!  I love to help people and I love seeing people succeed.  I am merely a guide for you and provide a platform (i.e. Challenge Groups) to help support you and hold you accountable.  You ultimately have to do all the work, but I'm with you every step of the way.  I, too, still work at this every day --- it does get easier.  The more you know your "why" - the easier it gets because nothing will stop you from getting there.

My next post will have my before and after photos as I finish this dual program - I can't wait to show them to you!  :)

Until next time...

STAY WARM and be HAPPY!  :)

Yours in health and happiness,
Coach Melissa

STATurday: My Journey with T25, PiYo and Shakeology

Happy New Year!

It's hard to believe that another year has already come and gone and we are already in the year 2015.  In a lot of ways, this is a special year for me.  I'm getting married in March to my best friend - which I can't wait!  I'm also celebrating my 1 year Anniversary with being a Beachbody coach and a Certified Kundalini Yoga teacher.  If anything, 2014 gave me the reason to really work on myself and be a better healthy and happy person.  It lead me to creating this very blog.  It lead me to helping others and enjoy learning about health and wellness even more.  It has lead me to take my business and health to another level as well as keeping active and eating clean.  I want to achieve more and BE more.  I want to help other people.  I want to BE somebody in this life.  I want to help people create a great life for themselves, but in doing, I need to start creating one for myself.  I sometimes can get ahead of myself on that front - haha!

So - this is my journey...

2015 is already starting off well.  I'm currently combining two fitness programs I love - T25 and PiYo.  I find I do better when I mix it up a little bit and now Beachbody has schedules where you can combine workouts.  So, if you have a program or two that is collecting DUST in your closet, get it out!  I bet you I can find or create a schedule for you to start working on for 8 weeks!  :)

I'm finding that my body (especially my arms and butt) are shrinking - and it's only been 2 weeks!  If you're interested in what the program looks like each week - check out the link here:  http://www.beachbody.com/images/pdf/piyo-t25-hybrid-calendar.pdf

If you'd like to get the T25 or PiYo programs, here is a link for further information:

Here are my Day 1 Shots and Stats.  Clearly the 4 pounds I gained back over the holidays isn't looking the best, but a simple fix in the choices I eat will get me back to my comfortable size again.
Starting STATS:
Weight: 154.6

Chest: 38 in.
Waist: 33 in.
Hips: 38 in.
R.Arm: 12 in.
L. Arm: 12.1 in.
R. Thigh: 22
L.Thigh: 22.5

I'll be posting my 30 day stats and results in the next 2 weeks so stay tuned for those results.

What am I doing for nutrition (aka FOOD)?

Well, I'm glad you asked.  I'm actually following the 21 day fix meal plan in conjunction with the Piyo and T25 workouts.

I love the containers, it keeps me knowing what to eat and how much of it!  It's EASY to follow and the best part is - I can still have wine!  HAHA!

I'm actually trying to get everyone I know to get it because it really does help.  Nutrition counts towards 80% of weight loss!  Why not make that the easiest part?

I'm doing a 21 Day Nutrition and Fitness Fix group in February - if your interested simply join my event invite by visiting www.facebook.com/healthyhappypurelifeand going to the events tab!  I'll be happy to reach out to you via facebook and send you more details.

If you know that it is something that you'd like to get regardless of being in my Fix group - here are the details on how to get the 21 Day Fix program and off on the right start!

Shakeology is still also a HUGE part of my diet.  I drink it every morning after my workout.  It keeps me healthy, provides me with the nutrients I need to stay energized during the day, and is super delicious.  How many people can really say that they get to have a chocolate shake every morning? Haha!  Love it!  It curbs my sweet cravings and really does help keep the extra weight off.  If you'd like more information on it or would like to order yourself a sample pack, simply visit my website here: www.shakeology.com/m4mckim

Food.
Exercise.
Support &
Accountability.

If you can decide and commit, you WILL succeed and I'll be there to help you every step of the way.  Let's do this TOGETHER!  :) That's what I do now.  It's who I've become and it's something I'm really passionate about and BELIEVE in.

Yours in health and happiness,
Coach Melissa

STATurday: My Journey with 21 Day Fix and Shakeology

Well, it has come.  I have one day left on the 21 Day Fix program and it has been a great one to follow these last 6 weeks.  Time goes so quickly, I can't believe that we are already here at the end.

Again, I really like the nutrition plan aspect of this program, the containers are fool proof and really help you with food portions.  Just last night, my own fiancée and I went out to dinner and decided to just split our meal - restaurants charge so much for one plate and the reason is because they give you anywhere between 2-4 servings per plate!  It also saves us money when we split a dinner plate and we are always completely full and satisfied.  Had it not been for this program, I probably wouldn't have known to make the adjustment when going out to eat at restaurants.

Weight:  152

I think my body was more toned when I started. Dang!  Pictures totally hold one accountable - look at the difference from 6 weeks ago to now.
Weight:  154

Well, many people say that gaining weight means gaining muscle, but I think the pictures speak for themselves.  I have learned a valuable lesson from doing this program.  Not all programs are created equal and I need to be better about taking pictures and measurements to keep me motivated to continue on.  Does the excuse that my dogs ate my measuring tape sound reasonable as to why I haven't been measuring?  I mean, it really did happen and I've been too busy to pick up a new one!

NO ONE IS PERFECT, especially me.  I am not very proud of where I'm at right now, but this is a journey and I think that failing is part of it.  I'm better off than I was back in December 2013.  And I know that if I want change to happen, I have to keep working towards it.  I will have set backs and months where I get behind - but this is a journey.  It's about falling and getting back up again.  It's about never giving up and just being happy with yourself and seeing how far you've come.
I am proud of myself.  I am proud of where I'm going and what I've become from this process.

I am going to start P90x3 or Focus T25 again and see where it takes me.  I'm going to be really good at taking measurements again and holding myself more accountable with my decisions.

Thank you for following me on my journey.  It's been an amazing one, that is for sure.  Looking at where I started, it really puts things in perspective.  This is me below - Day One - December 2013.

If I can do it, you can do it.  Don't ever give up.  Keep pushing - even when it gets hard and you feel like giving up.

WE can do this.

RECIPE WEDNESDAY: Slow Cooker Fiesta Chicken Recipe

Folks, I found another yummy SLOW COOKER recipe!  Yipppeee!!

I made this last night and as you know, I love super easy meals!  This was really full of flavor and delicious.  It also goes well if you're sticking to eating clean and if you're working the #21DayFix program.

It's called the Fiesta Chicken Recipe!

Serve shredded chicken slow cooked with tomatoes, corn and black beans over brown rice. Make it a fiesta of flavors by adding toppings such as shredded cheese (light /non-fat and within reason folks!), sour cream (small portion), chopped cilantro or green onions.

Ingredients

Serves:

Directions

  1. - Place chicken in slow cooker.
  2. - Mix Seasoning Mix, tomatoes, corn and beans until blended. Pour over chicken. Cover.
  3. - Cook 8 hours on LOW or 4 hours on HIGH. Remove chicken from slow cooker.
  4. - Shred chicken, using 2 forks. Return chicken to slow cooker; mix well. Serve over cooked brown rice with assorted toppings, if desired.

Let me know what you think after you make it!

STATurday: My Journey with 21 Day Fix and Shakeology

I hope you don't mind me getting real here.  But, as I sit here writing this today I have come to the realization that this truly is a journey.  It is constant work and I am amazed at how far I've come and how much farther I can really go.

What is a journey anyway?  According to the dictionary it is an "act of traveling from one place to another".  So that then leads me to my next question which is, what am I traveling to?  What do I want?

I want to live a healthy and happy life as well as be happy with my body and my weight.  I want to feel comfortable in my clothes.  I want to teach and help others on their own fitness journey.  That is what I still want and what I keep striving to achieve.

I have been doing the Beachbody programs since January 2014 and I've seen some amazing transformations within myself and my body.  Heck, I've even become a coach and am helping others by hosting Facebook Challenge Groups and offering guidance!  That has all been amazing and I love doing it.

Yet as I sit here, I gotta be honest, I've been feeling incredibly down...  I feel like all of a sudden I don't know what to do next for my weight loss journey.  I have enjoyed the 21 Day Fix program and drinking my Shakeology daily, but I want to do more.

These last few weeks have been a yo-yo when it comes to my weight loss.  I've been watching what I eat and exercising 7 days a week for the last 5 weeks for 30 minutes, but I've been noticing that the weight isn't easy to come off, I'm stuck.  I think that I'm in what everyone calls a "weight loss plateau".

What do I do now?  I'm stuck in the middle of my journey.  What does one do when you find that you aren't able to get to your goal?  The answer...??

Find another way...don't give up.

While I have enjoyed the 21 Day Fix program, I must say that it isn't working as well as I would have hoped.  I have lost some inches and the diet containers are amazing, but I think that since my body is in good physical condition I need to challenge it a bit more with some more intense cardio and weight training routines.  So this week, while I continue to finish out my last week of the 21 Day Fix program, I will be looking at purchasing another Beachbody program to see if it will help in my continuation of weight loss and losing inches.  I am trying to decide between Chalene's TURBOFIRE or INSANITY

Which one do you think I should try next?  COMMENT below on this post.

I am planning on placing my order tomorrow - so let me know your thoughts.

Thank you for your continued support!

RECIPE WEDNESDAY: Banana Oatmeal Cookies

Let's face it, when it comes to women and their "moon cycles", we really need a "go to" sweet - i.e. chocolate.  And I don't know about you, but when I am eating clean and this time of the month swings around, my cravings for sweets and salty foods are heightened even more!

But, there is hope ladies!

I just found this great recipe with the 21 Day Fix.  I made Banana Oatmeal Cookies last night (you can have 2 of them and they count towards one of your yellow containers).  I was super impressed by how yummy they were without chocolate, but with raisins!  Although, you probably could put chocolate chips in this recipe too - but that may alter how many you have in a serving.  The thing I like most, is that this recipe is a SUPER clean treat.  There is loads of cinnamon in them, which is a spice that is incredibly good for you and actually helps you in your efforts for weight loss (click here to read more).

Needless to say, if you're looking for a healthy sweet, try these and if you make any variations, do share!  I'd love more ideas.

BANANA OATMEAL COOKIES
(Makes 8 servings, 2 cookies each)

Non-stick Cooking Spray
1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp. sea salt
2 ripe medium bananas, mashed
1/4 cup  golden raisins
1/4 cup chopped raw walnuts

DIRECTIONS:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
2. Lightly coat baking sheet with spray.  Set aside.
3. Combine oats, cinnamon, and salt in a medium bowl; mix well.
4. Add bananas, raisins, and walnuts; mix well.
5. Drop by heaping Tbsp. onto prepared baking sheet; flatten cookies with a spatula.
6. Bake for 14 to 15 minutes or until firm.

STATurday: My Journey with 21 Day Fix and Shakeology

I never got the chance to post last weekend, as I was finishing up my teacher training for Kundalini Yoga.  It is a very busy month, as I've been doing nothing but studying and research for my two papers that are due Mid-June.  Plus, Johnny and I have been doing a lot together (wedding planning, cleaning the house, working our day jobs, working out and sleeping!!).

Here is a current fun photo of us from Easter!  :-)

So - because I'm a little overworked and stressed out, I haven't been the best person with this program's nutrition plan (I will get better though these last two weeks).  As such, I don't think I've lost as much weight as the others have doing this program for the first time, BUT I have kept up with working out 7 days a week like it calls for and that alone has made some amazing changes with my body.  I can say that I've happily lost 5 pounds in the last 4 weeks, even by having a few cheat meals on the weekends.  If you put in the work and try your best, you will see results with this plan.

"You gotta be willing to do something you've never done in order to get something you've never had!"

I am thinking I may continue the next 2 weeks so that I can have a full 2 rounds of the program under my belt.  I will post my final results at that time!  Promise!

I would recommend this program to anyone who needs to lost a few pounds quickly and get toned fast.  My legs are toned and my abs are getting defined, which again, it feels like work in progress.

While I don't drink alcohol on a regular basis, I also like that it does allow those who like it to have that occassional glass of wine!  I am sure there are some of you who are jumping for joy with this news. 👍👍👍

Below you will find another meal plan that was created by my own Beachbody Coach.  She is so creative, I must say that posting this on my refrigerator alone gets me motivated to eat all this healthy food!

Stay tuned for further updates and information on this program, recipes, motivation, health tips / info and soon... how to strengthen your body, calm your mind, and uplift your spirit (aka, Kundalini Yoga)!

As always, don't hesitate to reach out should you have any questions, want to join in an upcoming challenge group or need some help!  I am reachable at coachmelissamckim@gmail.com.

STATurday: My Journey with Shakeology and the 21 Day Fix

This morning I was NOT in the mood to work out, at all.  This program is 7 days a week for three weeks and my body hasn't been used to that!  However, I DID work out because I knew that when I completed the workout, I'd feel better about it.  I especially like to work out in the mornings because it's the first thing I do when I wake up - it's routine.  By making it routine, it is easier to get my butt out of bed.  YES!

While the exercising is going well, I will say that this week was a challenge for me and my nutrition, as it was very apparent on the scale this morning by me gaining .5 pounds.  I had 4 cheat meals this week and by making those decisions, it added up and I'm now paying the consequences.

Is a .5 weight gain a big deal in the grand scheme of life?  No.
Do I know what I need to do to next week?  Yes.
Do I stress out about a little weight gain?  No.

I've come to realize that life is just too short to sweat the small the stuff.  I know that I didn't do as well as I could.  I know that I could have made better choices this week.  So, next week, I'll be a lot better. Here is my Week 3 Meal Plan, all ready to go (inspired and created by my own Coach Lisa! :)):

On a side note, I do have a new favorite Shakeology Recipe that came with the 21 Day Fix program, this is happiness every morning after I work out!  I wanted to be sure to share with you all!  See below:

Also, I love the ladies in my challenge groups as they all hold me accountable!  It is great to go through something like this with other people - other people who are all striving to change and incorporate a better healthy life style!

Thank you all for your continued support!  Week 3 is going to ROCK and I can't wait to post my before & after photos!

STATurday: My Journey with Shakeology and the 21 Day Fix

Okay - hold the press!  This program is SERIOUS!  I am totally amazed at how much my body has already transformed after only 6 days.  It is all about the NUTRITION and the work outs that Autumn has you doing are intense but they only last 30 minutes.  She is so encouraging and motivating during the workouts - I love it.  This could be a new favorite program!

Here I am at Day 1 of the 21 Day Fix:
Weight:  153 pounds
Waist: 31.2
Hips: 36.2
Chest: 35
Right Arm:  11.7
Left Arm: 11.7
Right Thigh: 20.2
Left Thigh: 20.2
Body Fat:  25.72%
I am not able to take photos until Day 21 - but I have already sneaked a peak at the scale and I am currently at 151 pounds!  I have already LOST 2 pounds this week - which is AWESOME!

This program is all about nutrition - drinking your Shakeology, portion control with the containers, and getting your 30 minutes of workout in every day of the week.  It is a really easy program to follow actually and I am shocked that it is taken THIS long to get something like this on the market.  It is a dire need in todays society, as even as a COACH, I didn't realize how much fruit and veggies I was OVEREATING.

This program also doesn't make me feel hungry - I am eating super healthy foods and my body has a TON of energy.  You are eating 5 mini meals throughout the day, spaced over 2-3 hours.  Again, super easy to follow and I use the weekends to prep my lunches and portions out for the week.

I can't wait to see where I'm at by Day 14 and then Day 21!

If you're interested in learning more about the program - visit my coaching site and take a look for more details:  www.beachbodycoach.com/m4mckim or feel free to shoot me an e-mail and ask any questions you may have.  Also, I'd be happy to help you get a good discount on Shakeology AND the program, just send me an e-mail for more details: coachmelissamckim@gmail.com

Stay tuned for next STATurday's post!  Thank you ALL for your continued support!

STATurday: My Journey with the 3-Day Shakeology Cleanse

After doing p90x3 for 30 days, I have come to realize that the program isn't designed to make you lose a ton of weight, it is designed to get you toned and physically stronger.  While I didn't lose any weight - I did lose inches over the course of the first 30 days and toned!  I have decided that I will go back to p90X3 when I get to my ideal body weight and want to maintain.  This is good intel for all you folks out there - so use it to your advantage!

So, I've decided to switch it up upon my return from vacation in Sanibel, FL and start the 21 Day Fix on Monday, April 14, 2014.  If you'd like to join me on the journey - check out the "JOIN MY UPCOMING CHALLENGE GROUP" page for more details!  :)  I have come to realize that I truly need a program that assists me with portion control so that I don't over eat and continue to lose weight!

Stay tuned for my journey with the 21 Day Fix and upcoming details on that program, I can't wait to start!

So what have I been doing since my return from vacation?  I have been doing the 3-day Shakeology Cleanse (to the best of my ability - for instance, on Friday I ended up having two salads - full of veggies and protein from chicken and turkey - it's what my body needed).  What I have liked about the cleanse is that you can tailor it to your needs and it has been a REALLY great option after vacation to help get my body back on track.  I have already lost 3 pounds since my return from vacation (which was direly needed after 5 days of indulgence)....  I'm back on track now!

So - what is it?
First of all, it's not a true cleanse. It's a calorie-restricted and nutrient-dense diet plan. Traditional cleanses contain very few calories and nutrients. Compared to the much more popular Master Cleanse, it's like an all-you-can-eat buffet. Traditional cleansing diets are done to rid your system of toxins and bring it into homeostasis. They also contain a spiritual aspect. This process can take a long time, which is why you may have seen coworkers walking around the office in a zombie-like state for weeks on end—swilling a strange concoction of lemons and maple syrup.

The Shakeology cleanse is nothing like that. Depending on how you decide to do it, you'll be eating frequently and consuming between 800 and 1,200 calories per day, and it could be even more should you feel the need. The point of this cleanse is not calorie restriction, per se—it's nutrient efficiency. The aim is to get the most nutrients possible into the fewest number of calories. The goal is to put all of these calories to use as a part of your exercise program, to rid your body of undigested foods and toxins, and to bring your hydration levels into homeostasis. The result you're after is not weight loss—though it will likely occur (like it did with me)—but for your body to be running more efficiently. This should make you feel lighter and more energetic (which it does!), even though you're doing an exercise program.

If you're interested in doing the 3 day cleanse and ordering Shakeology, make me your coach so that I can get you a BETTER deal!!!!   You can sign up here:  https://teambeachbody.com/signup/-/signup/free?referringRepId=330957
